Fall Convergence Innovation Competition Winners Announced

The Institute for People and Technology and the Georgia Tech Research Network Operations Center (GT-RNOC) hosted live judging of the 15th edition of the Convergence Innovation Competition on November 16th where students presented their projects.

Products and applications to make us healthier, more connected, and even more fun were all big winners at the Fall 2016 Convergence Innovation Competition.

IPaT and the Georgia Tech Research Network Operations Center (GT-RNOC) hosted live judging of the 15th edition of the CIC on November 16th where students presented their projects. More than 150 students on 36 teams participated in this semester’s competition. Categories for Fall 2016 were aligned with three of IPaT’s research priorities: Smart Cities and Healthy Communities, Socio-Technical Systems & Human-Technology Frontier, and Lifelong Health and Wellbeing.

Here are the winners in each of the CIC categories, plus a special People’s Choice award:

Smart Cities and Healthy Communities
1st place – TapTile transfers a regular flat surface into a network of sensors integrated with a display screen.
Team: Azalea Irani, Sharon Ang, Jian Ruan, Kaiwei Wang

2nd place – CheckTrip optimizes the estimated arrival for a traveler to reach the airport and a driver to know when to arrive to pick up their friend.
Team: Hao Wu, Wenxiang Lei, Fan Yang, Hye Sun Hong, Lusenii Kromah


Socio-Technical Systems & Human-Technology Frontier
1st place – Kickstart My Heart transmits emergency-related health information to appropriate personnel, including emergency services, caregivers, and doctors in real-time
Team: Ryan Williams, Mitch Webster, Kyle Woumn, Brandon Levester

2nd place – Reach My Rep makes it easy to find and contact your legislator and participate in causes you care about.
Team: Neeti Pathak, Lalith Polepeddi


Lifelong Health and Wellbeing
1st place – #DASHTAG is a fun and interactive mobile application that creates a route of destinations with workout challenges along the way.
Team: Aditi Dhar, Lindsey Eidson, Benjamin Le, Bao Vu

2nd place – Grocery HelpAR is a mobile application which helps international students who are not accustomed to grocery shopping in the U.S.

People’s Choice
LaughUp makes waking up an enjoyable experience, with funny stories recorded and submitted by other users or performers.
